Interview | Kazuki Kuraishi
Recently in town for the adidas Originals by Originals launch, plussixfive was fortunate enough to stop Kazuki in his tracks for a brief but fulfilling interview with the designer genius himself. Jump to read on.
plussixfive: Hi Kazuki, nice to meet you, how are things going, what have you been up to lately?
Kazuki: Hello, Things are going good, I have been rather busy lately, especially since the adidas Originals by Originals project has just been launched. I am also doing some designs for some other clients and freelance work.
plussixfive: What other notable clients are you working on for at the moment?
Kazuki: I am still designing for Levi’s Fenom under Fragment Design. Levi’s and adidas are the 2 main ones I am focusing on now and Levi’s has been an ongoing process.
plussixfive: Do you think by visiting Singapore, it may serve to be an inspiration for your designs?
Kazuki: Haha, I am not sure as I have just arrived a couple of hours ago and came straight from the airport! (laughs) However, I try to absorb as much from my travels as possible.
plussixfive: Now as a fashion designer, which is more important to you, the design or the textile?
Kazuki: Both? (laughs) I try not to focus on one aspect too much as i believe a combination and balance of both works best.
plussixfive: Haha, ok and one last question, what do you think of Surrender’s concept as a store in terms of design and layout?
Kazuki: I personally feel that the layout of the clothes in a shop is very important, as it determines the visual attraction for the visitors. For Surrender’s case, the layout is very good and the display of items are not cramp together, i like it. Also, i noticed that they carry some Japanese labels here that i like.
plussixfive: Thank you very much for your time Kazuki.
Kazuki: Thank you.
