The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA), development agency for Marina Bay, is organising the “My Marina Bay, My Inspiration” flag design competition in conjunction with the Singapore Design Festival. The competition invites participants to take inspiration from the transformation of Marina Bay and translate what they think best embodies the spirit of Marina Bay into symbolic flag designs. Besides walking away with prizes worth more than $10,000, winners also stand a chance to have their winning works showcased as life?size flag installations around Marina Bay in 2010. Local creative agency, Asylum, will assist URA to organise and run the competition. The flag design competition will take place online from 20 November 2009 to 31 January 2010, click here to visit the competition website.

The competition is open to anyone aged 12 and above. Participants, including design enthusiasts and youths, can choose to participate in the Open, Youth or Fun categories.

The Fun category is specially created to appeal to those with no design background and just want to have a fun time creating their own flags. Interested participants can have a go at designing their flags through a fun and easy?to?use online application found on the competition website. The 10 most popular entries which garner the most votes from members of the public will be the winner for this category.

There are Gold, Silver, Bronze and two Merit awards each for the Open and Youth categories. Winning designs will be selected by a distinguished panel of judges.

Entries to the Open and Youth categories will be judged on the following criteria:

- Creativity (Innovativeness)
- Originality (Entries must be new and original works)
- Design quality (Demonstrate good design principles)
- Design adaptability (Can be produced into life sized flags or adapted to other products)
- Relevance to the theme (Able to represent a facet of Marina Bay)

All entries have to be submitted online by 31 January 2010. More details of the competition can be found on the competition website here.
