As we enter the month of March, we’re being greeted with a calender of events that gets us on the edge of our seats. To kick things off, Velvet Underground hosts Motor City Drum Ensemble (Ger) on Wednesday, followed by VUtopia with Andy Smith(UK) on Thursday. Friday brings TABnology at Zouk, presenting Reboot (Ger), and Phuture celebrates its 14th Anniversary as our Pick Of The Week. Rounding us up will be Cosmic Gate (Ger) helming the decks at Zouk.

Motor City Drum Ensemble (Faces Records/Germany)

Some people called him the revival of Real House Music, not only as a producer but also as a DJ and established remixer. Not one to be pigeon holed into any particular genre, Danilo Plessow aka Motor City Drum Ensemble has caused quite a stir in the underground House music scene with his left field choices. The 12″ series, Raw Cuts, which has been played & supported by luminaries such as Gilles Peterson, Karizma, Jazzanova, Dixon, Laurent Garnier, DJ Hell, Steve Bug and even Basement Jaxx, displays a retrospective of House music, reminiscent of the ‘motor-city’ Detroit spirit with hints of Disco and Soul. For his debut, he teams up with Pablo Valentino (owner of Faces & MCDE label) for a night of groovy tunes.

Responsible for the multi-genre “Document” mix series (where he dropped Kate Bush next to James Brown next to Rakim) as well as being the legendary Portishead’s tour DJ, Andy’s been melding Hip Hop, Rock, Northern Soul and so many various other styles that his sets truly defy classification. So don’t miss out his VUtopia debut which promises to be a surprise to both punters and beat heads alike.
