Starting today, Vue Privée will be presenting an Artist of the Month each month where you can discover the person that lies within the artists and have the opportunity of viewing their work in the flesh. Hamburg-based photographer Inga Beckmann is the gallery’s first selected artist and will be exhibiting her stunning documentation of her journey, capturing little known states in North Korea. Covering cities of Pyongyang, Kaesong, Nampo, Wonsan, Inga Beckmann connects these states with their ancient historical monuments, place of cultural interest and untouched nature, much of which is unknown to the West and other modern cities like Singapore. Inga Beckmann‘s work is solely an observation, reflecting the country’s own composition of colours, space and dimension, which leaves you, the viewer with all the power to make your own judgements.

On one hand, North Korea combines every aspect of landscape photography from mountains, to lakes and beaches, which are all comparable and equally as picturesque as those of Switzerland and Canada, and the Mediterranean and Caribbean respectively. On the other hand, it is interesting to see which cultural elements dominate North Korean daily life since the media coverage about this state is exclusively political.

We’ve got good news for you! The lovely people at Vue Privée will be giving away a smaller sized print of your choice valued at $200 (unframed) at the end of the month. Simply snap a shot of any photograph from the exhibition, post it on our facebook wall and tell us your reaction towards the photograph in 2 – 4 sentences!
