Just two days ago, 12 finalists from around the region sought to convince the judges of the Audi Star Creation 2012 that they deserve an opportunity to showcase their capsule collection in the Audio Fashion Festival 2013. Soravit Kaewkamon was the lone designer to present menswear pieces and did nothing short of leaving an impression on us. Smooth shapes, defined cuts and strong structure were her interpretations of a tightly knitted community tied together by love and friendship. The young and talented Thai also captured glimpses of the hornbill, representing friendship, in the form of print used for blazers and shorts. Another well deserved winner was Liang Wang (Roderic) who developed his own fabric using felting techniques to create textures and built three dimensional shapes on wool without stitching. Titled Tissue of Being, intricacies of Wang’s collection inspired by human tissue was well appreciated. Winner of the People’s Choice Award based sketches, Natalia Kiantoro also gave us a thing or two to ponder about when she showed her collection of drapes and pleats, and twists and turns. Her choice to venture only in the realm of grey tones brought attention to her workmanship, which was especially clear when a lightweight, light grey hooded vest came down the runway.

Boasting a hint of rock and baroque for its Fall/Winter 2012/13 collection, Swarovski will reveal an aristocratic and multicultural muse whose spirited style combines heritage and modernity. This season, Swarovski will be all about transporting you to an opulent world derived from minimalism through its Kingdom of Jewels.

Unifying fashion and technology, Digital Fashion Week (DFW) is eliminating the hierarchal pressures of fashion shows,  welcoming all to be present at their very own fashion shows – whether physically or virtually, twice a year. Come October, DFW will launch its debut edition showcasing Spring/Summer 2013 collections from Singapore labels, with a special guest appearance by an international designer to mark the inaugural event.

Hearts are racing and palms are clammy. In just about a week, Singapore’s main fashion event will be “Lighting the Future” with a presentation of the Mugler Autumn/Winter 2012 collection in the sweet presence of none other than Creative Director, Nicola Formichetti. Awarded the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator at the British Fashion Awards 2010, or possibly better known as the as preternaturally superior stylist of Lady Gaga and Fashion Director of Haus of Gaga, Formichetti’s style is our cup of tea - internationally eclectic; modern and traditional; Eastern and European. With Thierry Mugler’s equally and incredibly rich heritage, Formichetti has and will continue to prove that he is the perfect fit for the power of glamour, fusing pop and high fashion.

In its fourth year and growing from strength to strength, the Audi Fashion Festival 2012 will be closing with French designer of  iconic hourglass creations, Roland Mouret. He has created the most coveted iconic dresses, which have been labelled with a single name – Galaxy, Titanium, Moon. For over a decade, Mouret‘s work has been informed by his diverse experiences in his life, earning him the reputation as master of structure and silhouette, and intuitive understanding of the female form. Mouret will be showcasing his Autumn/Winter 2012 collection which promises to to capture the theme of the Audi Fashion Festival 2012 beautifully.

It’s Ian Davenport. Need we say more? A Former Turner Prize nominee and one of the most prominent contemporary artists of the post-painterly abstraction, Davenport has consistently created complex colour arrangements in vertical lines of varying widths. In his inaugural solo exhibition here, Art Plural Gallery will present Ian Davenport: Between the Lines, a fully illustrated, comprehensive and definite catalogue of the British artist’s poured paintings.

For those unfamiliar with Davenport’s work, his distinctive creative process involves the strategic pouring of paint with an industrial syringe over the body of his working surface. Using colour, rhythm, timing, control and chance, he has presented his own visual language in diptychs, triptychs and singular works.

I control liquid, I use colour, and I try to choreograph these different elements together. There’s a lot of internal rigour to the process, but at the same time it is about chance.
